Transcript: English Word Wall Project By: Joyce Kwon EC- Definition: out, away, from, fully Use: "The creature was a party of boys, marched approximately in steps in parellel lines and dressed in eccentric clothing." (Lord of the Flies pg. 18) Explaination: The word eccentric means that they are unsual, odd, and peculiar. It means that the clothing that the boys were wearing was odd and away from what others were wearing. More Examples: echo ecletic eclipse EN- Defintion: Put into, make Use: "A moment layer he was battling with the complex undergrowth that was already engulfing the scar." ( Lorf of the Files pg. 67) Explaination: The word engulfing means to surround and take in. The prefix "en" from engulfing shows the meaning of to captivate. More Example: Enamor, enclose, encompass FID- Defintion: believe and faith Use: "Total loyalty is possible only when fidelity is emptied of all concrete content." (Dictionary pg. 195) Explaination: The word fidelity means loyalty conjugal faithfulness. So The prefix "fid" shows and indicates that inorder to be a fidelity, one must give all their faith in to the other person. More Examples: fidget, fiddle Definition: shape Use: "He frowned at the black and white mess in which lay the unburnt of branches. He ried to formulate." (Lord of the Flies pg. 139) Explaination: The prefix "form" means shape and the defintion for formulate is to express in precise form, state definitely or systematically. And in the sentence the word expresses the meaning that the person is confused and is trying to figure out the solution. More Examples: format, formula FRAG- Definition: break The rock stuck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist." (Lord of the Files Pg. 181) Explaination: The sentence contains the word fragments, it means that the object is departed, broken off, disunify and disintegrate. The word "ment" means product so if it is fragment it shows that the product is broken. More Example: fragile GEN Defintion: kind Use: "The generosity brought a spatter of applause from the boys, so that Jack grinned at them, then waved the conch for silence." (Lord of the Flies pg. 43) Explaination: The action expressed in the sentence (... brought a spatter of applause) showed and represented generosity. Because if one person did a kind action the person should recieve a applause. (Dictionary pg. 140) Explaination: Because the goverenment is democratic and "demo" means people, the people makes up the government. (Lord of the Flies pg. 173) More Examples: vital, vitamins LUM- Defintion: light Use: " Piggy peered anxiously into the luminous veil that hung between him and the world." ( Lord of the flies pg. 174) MAL- Definition: bad, badly Use: "Piggy grabbed and put on the glasses. He looked malevolently at Jack. More Examples: malformaion, maladjusted, malcontent malfunction MENT- Defintion: mind Use: " Of all the boys, he was the most at home there; but today, irked by the mention of rescue, the the useless, footing mention ofresque, even the green depths of water and the shattered, golden sun held no balm.
