Wireless Network Presentation
Transcript: Thank you for listening. Tablet PCs can not be connected to a physical network. They require a strong and robust wireless network. We need to be ready for the change! Our Existing Wireless Network Full site survey by professional wireless architects. Full site deployment to maximise impact and minimise incompatibility. Installation would include a service contract that would allow us to troubleshoot problems quickly. This year, for the first time, the sales of IOS devices have overtaken traditional PC sales. The computing landscape is changing! Why we need a wireless network by Chris Furniss (A+, N+) & Michael Oakshott (BSc, A+,N+, MCP) What will a new network will give us? 6 years old, (other technologies are replaced on a 4 year rolling program). 2 wireless standards behind. Does not support new technologies (e.g wireless projectors, airplay & screen mirroring). Unreliable. Negatively impacting teaching & learning. Increased speed; Faster logons, less time wasted in lessons. Increased capacity; More students can use the wireless at once. Reliability; Each access point contains a virtual controller. If one access point breaks, the virtual controller will move to the next available access point. Scalability; Would support BYOD or a 1 to 1 deployment in the future. It means that there is a shift in paradigm occurring. People are moving away from the tradition PC setup and embracing the tablet as their preferred computing platform. "Wireless technology is rapidly becoming the 'norm' in the IT world, rather than an optional extra" cont. What does this have to do with wireless? Our Plan Over the last 4 years we have bought: 221 Student Laptops (£88,000) 100 Staff Laptops (£40,000) 20 Ipads (£6000) 10 Tablet PCs (£2000) Emerge Licences (£1,189) A total of £225,989 spent on equipment that requires a wireless network. Mobility: The access points are smart. They will assign users to the best access point that suits them. They will also force 'sticky' devices to change access points when required. Guest network: A wireless network just for guest use. All access points come with lifetime warranty. Wireless Network Presentation Return on Investment What does this mean?
