It was also thought to bring peace to a spirit when it was placed in someone's tomb. Materials and Jewelry uses of Turquoise Turquoise was first mined by the Anasazi tribe in North and Mesoamerica. The mines were in Chaco Canyon, which is now New Mexico.

It's fracture is perfect. It's streak color is bluish-greenish. It has a triclinic crystal system. In the United States, turquoise is primarily mined in Arizona. It is used in Native American healing rituals. In Iran top-quality turquoise has been mined for the last 5000 years, but only accounts for a small amount of the world's output. People first began mining turquoise in Egypt before Persia, but Egypt is no longer a big producer of turquoise. Turquoise is used in mosaics, overlays that cover surfaces, pottery, and fabrics. Turquoise has been praised by Egyptians and Native Americans not only because of it's beauty, but because of it's "supernatuarl" powers. Egyptians first found Turquoise in Egypt during 5,200 B.C. Turqoise is considered the first gemstone. Napoleon Bonaparte gave a crown of diamonds and turquoise to his empress. Miners dig up the jewel and sell it to different jewelers. Jewelers take the turquoise and make jewlery out of it. Turquoise is hard and won't brake easily, making long-lasting jewerly. Native American shamans used turquoise in their healing rituals. Turquoise has a lot of copper in it making it useful when building electrical wires which people use every day. Turquoise mining, or any mining at all, tears up forests and habitats for animals. Without a habitat, big animals will move to a new area, killing small animals. The mining of copper leaves behind tailings, or piles of dirt. After copper mining, a machine processes the tailings to extract turquoise and actually reduces the amount of tailings. Turquoise... is amazing.
