Transcript: poetic devices "As the smoke clears, I awaken. And untangle you from me," is an example of imagery. It is easy to picture what is happening in these lines. "I will be rising from the ground," is an example of a hyperbole. It is exaggerating that he/she will be rising from their lowest point. poetic devices setting, Speaker, and tone "As the smoke clears, I awaken And untangle you from me Would it make you feel better To watch me while I bleed? All my windows still are broken But I'm standing on my feet" In the second verse he/she is done with the other person and is going to leave all the bad memories and the past behind. The person the speaker is trying to get away from is happy that he/she is at their lowest point, but the speaker is going to keep fighting no matter what. He/she decides not to run anymore and face their problems. "Go run, run, run I'm gonna stay right here, Watch you disappear Yeah, oh Go run, run, run Yeah, it's a long way down But I am closer to the clouds up here" Finally, Demi Lovato sings about how she can handle anything and will not run from her problems in the bridge. The lyrics above tell us that the speaker will face their problems head on and is closer to their dreams. Theme Skyscraper Demi Lovato was in a rehab facility for having an eating- disorder and for self- harm. This song and its message related to her feelings and was like "therapy" for her. "Skyscraper" was written by Toby Gad, Lindy Robbins, and Kerli Kõiv. The song was released in 2011. poetic devices The setting of "Skyscraper" could be anywhere. It could be outside, in the woods, or in a city. The song takes place during modern day and does not shift. The speaker of this song could be anyone who has been broken down. Maybe by a bully or some other cause. Lastly, the tone of the song changes from sad to uplifting, happy, and strong. poetic devices theme Skyscraper Interesting Facts "Skyscraper" is an example of symbolism. The skyscraper symbolizes strength and confidence. Throughout the song he/she shows strength and confidence. The theme of "Skyscraper" is that you can overcome anything no matter what. Poetic devices are tools that help convey the theme by exaggerating and enhancing words so they explain what you are trying to say. “Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground, Like a skyscraper.” This verse shows both figurative language and symbolism. It is saying that even when I’m broken I will stay strong like a skyscraper. These devices also help us imagine what is happening and when we interpret these devices, they lead us to the theme. The title "Skyscraper" relates to the theme because it symbolizes strength which is needed to overcome anything, especially your fears. "Like I'm made of glass, Like I'm made of paper," are examples of similes. He/she is being compared to glass and paper. It is saying that they are easily breakable. "Try to tear...," this is showing alliteration. The letter "T" is being repeated at the beginning of these three words. This song is about someone who was broken down but rose above and slowly became strong and confident. "Skies are crying, I am watching Catching tear drops in my hands Only silence as it's ending Like we never had a chance Do you have to make me feel like There's nothing left of me?" In the first verse the speaker was at their lowest point and felt like nothing. "You can take everything I have You can break everything I am Like I'm made of glass Like I'm made of paper Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper Like a skyscraper" In the chorus they slowly became strong and confident like a skyscraper. The chorus is repeated three times in the song. SKYSCRAPER artist: Demi Lovato Presentation By: Hannah Ni Block Three " Go run, run, run," is an example of repetition. Transcript: Aurora Tower Aurora Tower is a skyscraper in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. At 207 meters height, it is currently Brisbane's second tallest building, after Soleil at 243 meters height. Infinity at 249 meters when built to full height in late 2012 will make Aurora the third highest building in Brisbane. Aurora has 69 storeys comprising four floors of 18 penthouses, 54 sky homes (two-storey luxury apartments) and 408 apartments. It features a heated pool, entertainment area and cinema for residents. Aurora Tower opened to the public on 5 May 2006. Aurora was designed to use iris recognition technology for security purposes, however this technology has not yet been put into use. Along with the intercom system and lifts, it has had problems functioning correctly. Another criticism has been the lack of car parks. The Tower is near central transport links such as the Central railway station. The Tower is also close to shopping areas such as Queens Plaza, Queen Street Mall, Winter garden and Elizabeth Street all of which feature shopping, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Other Brisbane landmarks such as the Story Bridge, Central Plaza 1 and Brisbane City Hall are visible from inside the tower. To ensure occupant comfort at the top of the building wind tunnel testing was conducted by the structural designers. Other innovative design and construction measures were needed due to the slender form of the building. In January 2008, the body corporate informed owners that the building's management rights were acquired by the Oaks Group. At the same time an application with the Brisbane City Council to change the class of the building to short-term accommodation by the Oaks Group, raised concerns by residents that the building's facilities may be overwhelmed by hotel guests. The site of Aurora Tower was originally proposed in 1992 to be the site for the Brisbane 2000 tower. The proposed tower was to be 250 m (820 ft) tall, which at the time would have made it the tallest tower in Australia. Soleil ` One One One Eagle Street is the tallest office building in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, located in the city center. With 6 star Green Star office design rating, the building will be part of the CBD's 'Golden Triangle' district. Its location is the site of the old Indigo House building, which was demolished over a period of six months starting in 2008. 95% of all waste from the old building is to be recycled or reused. The site is located between the Riverside Centre and Riparian Plaza buildings. Leighton Contractor constructed the skyscraper which has 54 floors including 44 levels of premium office space and 115 car parking spaces in the above ground car park. The building cost $700 million to construct. One One One Eagle Street Skyscaper in BRISBANE Soleil is a skyscraper located at 495 Adelaide Street, Brisbane, Australia. Construction began in early 2009 and is now Brisbane's tallest building. It contains 25 floors of serviced apartments and 43 floors of private residential apartments. In total there are 464 apartments. There is no penthouse in the building. The serviced apartments, which includes 50 apartments in the top nine levels, are owned by Meriton. It is situated on a relatively small 1500 m² corner site with rear access from Arch Lane. The slender building will house 10 levels of car park which required one of the biggest excavations in Brisbane's history. Retail space for cafes and restaurants is provided across three levels. The first building design for the site was rejected by the Brisbane City Council. This design was described as appalling and raised traffic congestion impacts. In late June 2008 a new design was submitted to the council and approved. The building was officially opened by Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh and Meriton boss, Harry Triguboff on 20 September 2011 but it was completed in early 2012. Starting at the first floor tenants began moving in as floors were completed.

Transcript: GOAL! By: Aaliyah Lunsford Information Engineer or Architect The Burj Khalifa was finally done on January 4,2010. They started building the Burj Khalifa September 21,2004 The tower foundations consist of a solid, 3.7-meter (12.1-foot) thick pile supported raft poured utilizing 12,500 cubic meters (m3) (16,350 cubic yards, yd3) of C50 cube strength (7.25-ksi) self-consolidating concrete (SCC). The raft was constructed in four separate pours (three wings and the center core). Each raft pour occurred during at least a 24-hour period. Reinforcement was typically spaced at 300 mm (12 inches) on center in the raft, and arranged such that every tenth bar in each direction was omitted, resulting in a series of “pour enhancement strips” throughout the raft; the intersections of these strips created 600-mm by 600-mm (24-inch by 24-inch) openings at regular intervals, facilitating access and concrete placement. The tower raft is supported by 194 bored cast-in-place piles. The piles are 1.5 m (5 feet) in diameter and approximately 43 m (141 feet) long, with a capacity of 3,000 metric tonnes (3,300 tons) each. Each was pile load tested to 6,000 metric tonnes (6,600 tons). The diameter and length of the piles represent the largest and longest piles conventionally available in the region. Additionally, the 6,000-metric-tonne pile load test represented the largest magnitude pile load test performed to date within the region The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. It is loated in Dubai, United Arab Emirates Actually it was both, Bill Baker as the engineer, and Adrien Smith as the architect. these were the same people who build the Cayan Tower. They made this tall building out of reinforce concrete walls, link beams, slabs, raft, and piles. Its structure type is steel spire and buttressed core. World Record Burj Khalifa Skyscraper Presentation World Records At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds the following records: Tallest building in the world Tallest free-standing structure in the world Highest number of stories in the world Highest occupied floor in the world Highest outdoor observation deck in the world Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world Tallest service elevator in the world Thank you!
