TCS Scholarship Presentation
Transcript: Beyond TCS As a senior, I looked at colleges and prioritized institutions based on size and accommodations. Several universities have accepted me, including Fordham and Fairleigh Dickinson. While undecided on a college or major, I am considering law, politics, communications, and business. I am excited to continue learning and making a positive impact on society. Conclusion In conclusion, I am immensely grateful for The Center School, especially the support system and the growth opportunities that enabled my success. I am willing to face new challenges. While it may not be easy, it will be worth it in the long run. Thank you for your time and consideration. Leadership and Jobs I hone my leadership skills as vice president of the student council, helping raise $1,300 in our annual David’s Cookies fundraiser, setting up the St. Patrick’s Day Dance and Boardwalk Day, and volunteering at a food bank. I also worked with Team Cerberus, spearheading our inaugural Double Good Popcorn fundraiser that raised $900. Learning about history interests me, whether European or American history and fossils, particularly shark teeth. Additionally, I’ve gained valuable work experience – assisting in the STEAM room, cleaning the lunchroom, organizing shelves at a supermarket, and helping at a thrift store. These jobs have taught me patience, gratitude, and organizational skills. Education and Public School Years I've always excelled academically. For instance, I won my school's spelling bee in fourth grade. However, I struggled with crowds and loud noises, issues my school district overlooked. After graduating elementary school, I attended a new school with the help of two aides. The district took them away from me, and I was left traumatized and vowed not to return. That led me to The Center School, chosen for its vast OT program and individualized learning and emotional accommodations. I've since thrived, forming close bonds with teachers and students and learning subjects ranging from Spanish to the New Deal to Carl Jung. My Autobiography By: Daniel J. Deutsch Interests and Hobbies I've developed many interests: I enjoy reading and writing essays and poems. I put that into good use for the school newsletter, where I have written articles about sports and esports. I am also writing a novel about a man facing an identity crisis, masking under different personas. Music is another passion, with my tastes spanning many genres, like progressive rock, modal jazz, and rap. I also enjoy sports and actively participate in my school’s soccer, basketball, and track/cross-country teams. I’m a passionate New York Yankees fan and have a baseball signed by Derek Jeter. I also love playing with my sister and teaching her new words. Early Life My name is Daniel Deutsch, and I was born on April 15, 2006, to my loving parents. My sister, Ella, soon joined. Early on, my parents recognized unusual behavioral patterns, leading to my Autism diagnosis, which Ella was also diagnosed with. While I’ve struggled with anxiety, socialization, and eye contact, Autism has gifted me with an expansive vocabulary, memory, and a mental encyclopedia that fuels my academic success.
