In this PowerPoint you will get an insight into the world of product design and development. you will gain a good understand of a variety of users' needs and how product developers design products to meet these needs. And to understand some of the products made by Apple and Microsoft ect. Camera parts can be made from China, Japan, Thailand or Germany ect. The first camera was made in 1840 May 8th. It was made by Alexander Wolcott. It wasn't actually made to take a lot of pictures and didnt' look like a modern day camera instead it was a wooden box with a lens. Modern day cameras are now hand held portable cameras with better quality of the picture. I think that cameras have had an effect on the consumer because if you didnt have a camera then you wouldn't be able to capture the memories that may be lost later in life. Over the years TVs have got better. now they have smart TVs, HD, 3D and many more! They used to have a big box on the back of the TV and loads of wires at the back, now the TVs and really thin and they only have a scart lead and some other ones and now you can watch DVDs on the TV (if you have a DVD player.) TVs have had a massive impact on people's lives because if you didn't know how to read then you wouldnt hear the news about the world and you wouldnt see the programmes that everyone else would be watching. Intel CEO Paul Otellini predicts PC sales will double to 2 million units per day by 2014. People have bought loads of electrical things over the years. Over the years computers and laptops have gotten faster, smaller and thinner. They started off as a just a screen with loads of wires coming out of it. Now the computers are portable and are now called tablets. The tablets are very fast working and very east to work. You can get different kinds of makes of tablets such as the Ipads by Apple and the tablets by Android. I think computers have had a big impact on people's lives because it's more fun to play on games and go on the internet and it could also make some people famous! Intro! TV phones! Transcript: Product Design Presentation Creating a new jig design Project Overview My task was to create a new jig design for SETA's machinists. Project overview Client's Brief Client's Brief The company requires a design solution to the reliability, quality, time and numbers produced with a new or modified jig or jigs and would like to use some type of gauge that can be used to accurately and quickly inspect the finished components. Key Requirements Key Requirements From the brief I found four key requirements for the new jig design: Create a new and modified jig that is more reliable. Create a jig that will produce a good quality product. Create a jig that will reduce the time being spent on securing and releasing the product. Create a jig that will produce a larger amount of spirit levels than the original jig does in the same time span Client's Suggestion From the brief I also found that the client would like a new way of accurately and quickly inspect the finished components. Client's suggestion Planning techniques To aid me with my project I have completed some planning techniques that will help me to know what to do and when to do it. Planning Techniques My Gantt Chart Gantt Chart I created a gantt chart as one of my planning techniques, as it will be able to tell me: What tasks need to be complete How long to spend on a task Planned and actual start times When a task should be finished If I have completed a task The amount of task i have completed and have left My Gantt Chart Gantt Chart My CPA After completing my gantt chart, I then created a critical path analysis to inform me on the best route to take to ensure I would get all the tasks done on time. Critical Path Analysis Initial Designs Before finding my final jig design, I created three initial designs. From these designs I used two evaluation methods to choose the best design to take forward as my final design. At first I draw three simple sketches, then I created the three designs on a software called Auto CAD. To do this I used three evaluation methods to make sure I was evaluating the designs correctly and picking the best design for my client. Eisenhower Matrix Firstly, I used an Eisenhower matrix to find the best criteria/categories to evaluate my three design against. As well as making sure the evaluation was suitable for the clients needs. My Final Design Securing The Jig Securing the jig I have chosen to use the same method as the existing jig, as this way is proven to work. Two M8 bolts will be used to secure the jig to the bed of the milling machine. Securing The Spirit Level I have chosen I new method, which is using a magnet that will fit into the two holes within the spirit level and jig. Assumption/Limitations After looking at the design of my jig there may be some assumptions and limitations that you are wodering about. I will try and talk about them now. Assumptions/Limitations Assumptions There may be some assumptions that you have of my jig design which I will try and confirm for you now: Will it hold the spirit level securely when milling? Will it be able to fit onto the milling machine? Assumptions Limitations There are a few limitations to my jig design which are: Only holds two spirit levels Only on can be cut at a set time Limitations Who's Involved There are different parts of the jig that need to be supplied to SETA so that the machinists can use the jig correctly for producing the spirit level. Who's Involved The Main Body The Main Body The main body of my jig will be made out of tool steel as this is what my research show me would be the most beneficial material to use. To manufacture the main body of my jig I will be using a process called casting, which my research showed would be the best method, with a company called Dean Group. I have chosen to use casting because: Make the complex structure of my jig economically. Die casting will allow me to reuse the mold as many times as I wish and therefore create a large amount of my jigs for SETA. The size of the object does not matter. But they like having friends and guests over to entertain, which causes need for more accommodation and disruption which is a pain-point for other suite mates. The Opportunity The Opportunity When college students entertain multiple guests in their small apartments it causes a lot of disruptions in the apartment and resentment with other suitemates, thus an opportunity arises to make furniture that helps accommodate more guests eases disruption and helps the host entertain comfortably.
