Transcript: Pictures/ Maps - The Three Gorges Dam was not effective becasue the effects are terrible. - This is so because even in the future the effects will just worsen -The effects were s bad they are thinking of having a relocation project -The environmental impact has endangered many animals and trees. Three Gorges Dam Background -The purpose of the dam was for the ships to go upstream, for power, for tourism, and for flood control. -The idea of this dam was first brought up in 1944 but the idea was put on the backburner due to the economic situation and just overall timing -The idea came to surface again in the 1980's. Positives -terrible on the environment becasue it caused deforestaion and polluted the water -economic situation in China worsened becasue this dam costed alot of money -erosion has been taking place since it was first installed, becasue it is touched by water everyday. Other Information - Brings alot of power to China as a whole -Controls terrible flooding that occurs in China from the Huang- He or Yellow River - unified people My Opinion - 1.4 miles long and 607 feet -21 million cubic yards -the resovior water levels are 456 feet above sea level about 24 billion U.S Dollar range -1.3 million people were misplaced and relocated -300,000 people were killed by the Yangze River flood -1.5 million people were protected -26 turbines have been designed to produce 18,000 megawatts of energy -only 10% of China's energy needs have been met -The Dam negatively affected the trade in China becasue the production of the dam polluted the water. Polluted water causes bad cops. Trading consists of the crops being traded. So if the crops are not quality, people will not want to buy t, therefore trade decreasing. -Over 100 workers died in the production of the wall -Although he negative effects, there was still a a human benefit that goes as follows: The Three Gorges Dam did in fact serve its purpose. It still does give alot of power, it does help in the navigation of ships, and it does help with the tourism in China. -An alternative of this dam could have been conserving and reusing.
