Capirotada Eggs are another food served with Gallo Pinto. They are usually served fried, but sometimes they are served scrambled with cheese and sour cream. It is a blend of rice, rotisserie chicken, mixed vegetables, red bell pepper, chopped celery, onion, traditional Costa Rican Salsa Lizano, soy sauce, and topped with cilantro. Also known as "Chocolate Bread Pudding" is a dessert typically found in Costa Rica. A sweetened chocolate and milk mixture poured over toasted bread, then baked Costa Rican Banana Cake Breakfast Fresh bananas, mashed, and mixed with flour and other dry ingredients to make a delicious cake. [bananas, flour, coconut sugar, cinnamon, ground ginger] Arroz con Pollo Ingredients in most Gallo Pinto recipes: Olla de Carne is a traditional Costa Rican hodge podge soup. It is made up of lean beef, short ribs, potato, cassava, carrots, corn on the cob, taro roots, sweet potato, and plantains. Served with a bowl of rice. Fresh Fruit Costa Rican Tilapia Many Costa Ricans serve a side of fruit in their meals, especially during breakfast. They serve fruits like mango, pineapple, strawberries, and papaya. Sopa Negra Description: The most common lunch dish in Costa Rica is Casado, literally meaning “married man.” The plate is a combination of rice, black beans, bell peppers, onions, fried plantains, and a meat of your choice (beef, chicken, fish, pork). Squash cooked in butter and sugar to make a jelly-like honey. [white spaghetti squash, crushed sugar cane, cinnamon sticks] Gallo Pinto is a traditional breakfast dish for Costa Ricans. "Gallo Pinto" translates to "Spotted Rooster" and the name is said to come from the contrast between the dark beans and the light rice. The dish is served with sour cream, avocado, and tortillas Tamales are different types of meat, often mixed with some type of mole, and wrapped in a banana husk. The ingredients include banana leaves, chicken or beef roast, rice, potatoes, corn masa, cumin, achiote, raisins or dried plums, garlic, pepper, and onion. Olla de Carne Lunch Fried plantains are also served with Gallo Pinto. They are served ripe and usually sweet with a little sugar on top. Derived from the verb “picar” ( to chop/mince) Picadillo de Chayote is a blend of chayote(type of squash), shredded beef, red bell pepper, corn, onion and traditional spices served on a fresh tortilla. Served with rice and beans.
