Transcript: Planning Multicultural Night Action Plan How can I make our 1st Multicultural Night successful? Met with students to discuss materials they can bring to represent their country and culture. Collected materials (artifacts, pictures, games, clothing) from students around the school who brought things in for their culture. Found music and videos to play in classrooms during Multicultural Night. Created a "Passport" for parents to use to write down information about each country they visit. Used the facts provided by the students and culture cards from the district to create cultural posters for the 17 countries that are represented in our building. The BIG day - Multicultural Night!! Organizing Met with the Family Liaison, Principal and Assistant Principal to set a date for our 1st Multicultural Night. Made a list of countries represented in our building Made a list of materials that we would like to have for each country (food, artifacts, games, clothing, etc.) Met with PTO to brainstorm ideas for Multicultural Night. Contacted parents to help with making our Multicultural Night successful Teachers attended, helped set up artifacts in classrooms and helped students write down facts in their passport. A lot of our families attended Multicultural Night and learned valuable information about the different cultures in our building. Families used the "Passport" to write down facts about each country. Families brought in food from their home country and shared it with everyone who attended. Some students from Mexico danced in front of the families to show us a traditional Mexican dance. Multicultural Night was a huge success and I would like to have more families wanting to help out next year for our 2nd Multicultural Night. By: Courtney Thomson

Transcript: Created by Jordan Fullmer for CO 300 Presentation Action Plan Argument Goals Argument Goals I want my audience to be able to see that having voters agree and vote on exempting the tampon tax is not the only option for women. They need to be willing to get out of their comfort zone and try a menstrual cup. Menstrual cups are made of silicone instead of tampons which contain chemicals. They are much healthier for women and saves the environment from unwanted garbage from other feminine hygiene products. They are worry-free for a woman because they can last up to 12 hours. It's Not Gross Menstrual cups are not "gross." The majority of reviews say they are the best things to happen to their periods. Why do people wait so long to give them a try? Plain and simple, fear of giving them a go. Briana M. on Jul 18, 2018 Amazing! It's been great and i feel so good about using it and saving the planet at the same time. Would recommend to everyone! Renee S. on Jul 11, 2018 Recommend to all! Fear of the unknown was the main reason it took me so long to jump on board. I was recommended a flow cup through a friend and I wish I had bought one sooner. It is so easy to use, discreet, comfortable, you save money, it's good for the environment. Highly recommend to all! Jo H. on Jul 10, 2018 Mental cup Fantastic, wish I had gotten one a long time ago. The Product Menstrual Cup Be Kind to Our Earth Do your part and help save our Earth! Target Audience Audience The audience that I'm hoping truly gets impacted by this issue is all women realizing there needs to be a change when it regards how women get their feminine hygiene products. Some women are in more of a desperate need than others; however, we all need to come together to help women get safe and clean feminine hygiene products. Fighting Together Women Strong Women realize they are strong, and are proud to stand together in times of menstruation There are many concerns and issues when it involves menstruation. Many girls do not get educated or are involved in decisions, there is a huge stigma about what it means to have a period as a girl, besides the safety concerns, women are not being empowered by their menstruation. Why? Those Resisting Plan Plan I am planning on using either a prezi or an essay to get my argument and voice heard. I have some very powerful sources that I am wanting to include so it makes more sense to use a prezi. It would be more difficult and would interrupt the flow to include videos or pictures in an argumentative essay. What will be more influential and powerful to my audience? It doesn't matter who you are, there is a woman in your life that needs to hear my argument so they can have the convenience of an easy period every single month. It's 2018, women are done being shy about their menstruation. This Benefits Everyone to Hear Everyone Included It's quite simple. Start using a menstrual cup and start to notice the amazing benefits and stress-free life of menstruation. Educational Psychology, 37 (4), pp. 197-2014. doi: 10.1207/S15326985EP3704_1 Small group rotations including time with the teacher, games, technology, and individual lessons data shows that the students abilities were on a steady rise. Lack of achievement growth or inconsistent academic growth among students is troubling. Special education students seem to struggle the most when the main teaching method used is cooperative learning. The question has been raised: does cooperative learning help special education students or does cooperative learning hinder their academic achievement? Several journal were found in support of cooperative learning in the classroom. Most studies overlooked special education students. Tier 1 focuses on the whole group instruction. Students who struggle in Tier one are identified and moved to Tier two instruction. Retrieved from https://www.understood.org/en/school-learning/special-services/rti/at-a-glance-3-tiers-of-rti-support Recommendations Quantitative data collected will come from standardized tests as well as major benchmark tests that are given at the beginning and end of each nine week grading period. Data Analysis Students surveys showed that student preferred cooperative learning over other teaching methods, their test score did not back this up. Conclusions Cooperative learning “provide[s] students with learning disabilities (LD), who have math disabilities and social interaction difficulties, an instructional arrangement that fosters the application and practice of mathematics and collaborative skills within a natural setting”(Rivera, 1996, p. 1). Small group and one-on-one instruction showed a sharp up swing in student scores. This makes planning lesson plans and educational strategies difficult. Brophy, J. E. (1988). Research linking teacher behavior to student achievement: Potential implications for instruction of Chapter 1 students. Educational Psychology, 23, pp. 235- 286. doi:10.1207/s15326985ep2303_3 Cooperative learning showed several students grade fall at an alarming rate. The finding of the data are mixed. While the students expressed that they like learning by cooperative learning best and feel strongly that this is the best method for them, the test scores and grade average of the classroom shows differently. Action Plan Review and Data Malinda Holmes ED5508 Dr. Amy Gaskins Interventions Two characteristics of schools that achieve success are first, have a positive attitude and expectations on the part of the teacher toward the students, and second, have an emphasis on quality instruction (Brophy, 1988). Students reported a higher anxiety with cooperative learning due to the need to be able to work in a group. During whole group students admitted they could disappear and not be noticed. One-on-one teaching gave students the most comfort. Based on the data and the observations of the students during the data gather process the following recommendations are made: Students should be monitored from the start of the year by giving a pre-year test. This will be the base line to which all future benchmarks will be held. Students should be monitored for emotional state when new concepts are in introduced to the class. New concepts for special education students would be better introduced in tier two small groups to insure that students are understanding the concepts. Tier three instruction should be given as soon as a students shows sign of struggling, not after the benchmarks are given. To make sure these students are identified it is important to use exit tickets to monitor student learning. Stoehr, J. (n.d). Tier 2 interventions: Take rti education to the next level. TeachHub.com. Transcript: Anything additional you'd like to add? Action Plan Template SMART GOALS ARE... SPECIFIC — A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal, you must answer the six "W" questions: Who? Who is involved What? What do I want to accomplish Where? Identify a location When? Establish a time frame Which? Identify requirements and constraints Why? Specific reasons, purpose of benefits of accomplishing the goal MEASURABLE— Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal. To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as: How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished? ATTAINABLE — When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals. You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them. Include marketing and promotion strategies that you want to use or at least consider using. The point of creating an action plan with SPECIFIC goals is to set you up for success for the school year. You have the opportunity to have ownership over your goals. We will have a collective team goal of new user acquisition, so your goals and strategies for your campus should reflect how you will ultimately help the team achieve the team goal. (Ex. of the community goal: 250,000 new users first semester) Do Your Goals Pass the "SMART" test? Examples Use the questions below to expand on each of your goals Need some more insight on SMART Goals? Here's some supplemental reading: Examples: So what are S.M.A.R.T. goals? More goals? Here's some additional boxes AS AMBASSADORS, YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT CREATING A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND MISSION GOOD GOAL: Effective leaders are recognized by their commitment to the organization or role. Everything leaders do revolves around their passion for the organization’s deeper purpose. Those who create a sense of mission in an organization feel the purpose is meaningful and “beyond oneself.” The organization’s mission resonates through the leader’s words, actions, expectations and decisions. MY SMART GOALS: What do you want to accomplish? Who will be involved? Who are the stakeholders? Where will this goal take place? When will the goal be accomplished? How will you measure progress and success? What are some requirements needed to achieve this goal? What are some potential obstacles that could stand in the way? Why is this goal important to increasing Prezi usage on campus? What benefits will Prezi receive by accomplishing this goal? Product How would you describe the Prezi product? How does Prezi relate to the market (i.e. your campus)? What does your market need, what do they currently use, what do they need above and beyond what they currently use? Competition Can you describe your competition? What makes Prezi stand apart from the competition? What is the competition doing about branding on campus? Zoom in and create an action plan for each goal *Include at least three Remember, you can be creative! This is just a template, so feel free to move things around and make it your own. Helping people share their ideas so they can change the world. BAD GOAL: “We’re going to advertise on social media, spread flyers, and make phone calls to help publicize the rugby team’s exhibition game.” “We’re going to advertise on social media for one week, post 50 flyers in all the classroom buildings, and each make 10 phone calls to help publicize the rugby team’s exhibition game.” Strategies to consider: Networking - go where your market is Direct marketing - flyers, speaking in classes Advertising - campus TV's, chalking on campus Training programs - to increase awareness Write articles, give advice, become known as an expert Publicity/press releases/news articles REALISTIC — To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic. You are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be, but be sure that every goal represents substantial progress. A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low
