Transcript: Planning Multicultural Night Action Plan How can I make our 1st Multicultural Night successful? Met with students to discuss materials they can bring to represent their country and culture. Collected materials (artifacts, pictures, games, clothing) from students around the school who brought things in for their culture. Found music and videos to play in classrooms during Multicultural Night. Created a "Passport" for parents to use to write down information about each country they visit. Used the facts provided by the students and culture cards from the district to create cultural posters for the 17 countries that are represented in our building. The BIG day - Multicultural Night!! Organizing Met with the Family Liaison, Principal and Assistant Principal to set a date for our 1st Multicultural Night. Made a list of countries represented in our building Made a list of materials that we would like to have for each country (food, artifacts, games, clothing, etc.) Met with PTO to brainstorm ideas for Multicultural Night. Contacted parents to help with making our Multicultural Night successful Teachers attended, helped set up artifacts in classrooms and helped students write down facts in their passport. A lot of our families attended Multicultural Night and learned valuable information about the different cultures in our building. Families used the "Passport" to write down facts about each country. Families brought in food from their home country and shared it with everyone who attended. Some students from Mexico danced in front of the families to show us a traditional Mexican dance. Multicultural Night was a huge success and I would like to have more families wanting to help out next year for our 2nd Multicultural Night. By: Courtney Thomson

Transcript: In 2012 on the Jeff Probst Show, Marlee Matlin a famous deaf actress was interviewed about life being deaf. She told the audience this story. One time she was on a plane, and the stewardess must of known she was deaf, because she entered with her interpreter, and started signing to him. Everything was normal, until about a minute later, when the stewardess came over and gave her a menu. It was in braille. This is a perfect example of how we need to educate people. When you think of the word 'deaf' what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Many hearing people could probably never imagine a life without sound. No music, not being able to hear your parents when they call you down for dinner. You might automatically think, "It would be like the end of my world!" But no. It's not. To a deaf person its normal, its who they are. By Abby Bradley-Gilbert I have heard from numerous sources that the deaf community is exhausted from the numerous comments, coddling, and sympathizing from hearing people. There is not much we can do because humans are humans and we all have our own thoughts and opinions, put you can do the little things. Like if you are ever out in public and you hear a hearing person sympathizing a little too much, you could just say, "I think they are fine with who they are." They will be happy that someone agrees with them. (Finally!) Being Deaf: Disability or Culture? Many people might think that being deaf is a huge , awful shadow on someones life that they can not get rid of. Deaf people hardly think this. Here is a video from a family's point of view, showing how your life can be normal even if you are deaf.

Transcript: They need to be unconscious Use anesthetics & let animals rest No killing non-human animals in front of the other animals (causes distress) Proper birthing and impregnating methods Allow the cow to have intercourse instead of shoving your hands into its vagina every few months. http://aldf.org/cases-campaigns/petitions/ Each grown chicken has as little as six-tenths of a square foot of space. Because of this they have became aggressive and this has lead to the painful practice of debeaking the birds. Slaughter floors are an unnatural surface for pigs and because of this animals often suffer skeletal deformities. Gases from manure irritate animals' lungs to the point where over 80% of US pigs have pneumonia upon slaughter. 50 billion pounds of antibiotics are produced in the U.S. each year. 20 million of these antibiotics are given to animals. Now a typical chicken in the store contains twice the amount of fat, and a third less protein than they contained 40 years ago. Picture of Participants Laws Social Justice Issues Experience It was hard to encourage people to participating in the challenge. People also felt like we were propagandizing vegetarianism and not focusing on the issue. After proving certain amount of education on our topic, people overlooked their opinions and were intrigued to start the challenge. Of the people who did participate we were surprised how many people actually enjoyed the challenge. • We will be able to supply enough water for New England for 4 months. • Be will be able to grow enough crops to feed the state of New Mexico for over a year. • There will be enough gas to fuel every car in Canada and Mexico • We will save 33 tons of antibiotics • Save 7 tons of major air pollution If we all went vegetarian for ONLY ONE DAY... About Us... • Bring awareness to others on this topic through eduction and experience. • We did this through a Facebook page where we provided information on our issue and invited people to participate in our vegetarian challenge. • This challenge took one week to complete and as proof of completion, participants had to take photos of their food and post them at the end of their challenge on the Facebook page. Animal Rights Our Belief Goal Our Personal Experiences... by Liza, Sebastian & Jeevan • Hormones and antibiotics effect us. •Institution of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences has estimated the annual cost of treating antibiotic-resistant infections in U.S. at $30 billion. • Pollution from animals waste causes respiratory problems, skin infections, nausea, depression and even death. World Hunger; 70% of Canadian crops are fed to animals. Canada produces more meat than 33 million people can consume. In 1990 we exported 100,000 tonnes of beef. In 2011 we exported 337,000 tonnes. Green House Gases= 18% of G.H.G. higher then transportation produces. 37% of methane more then 20% times global warming potential of carbon dioxide. USA produces 61 million tons of waste each year which is 130 times the volume of human waste, or 5 tons for every us citizen In 1984 Agri-Food Canada developed a recommended code of practices that was developed with Livestock Industries, Government, and Canadian Federation of Humane Societies. 28 hour law was passed on 1873. Animals had to be let out to drink and eat after 28 hours. We 're all about animal rights and we felt like it was an issue that had to be addressed because of how poorly animals are treated in regards to food corporations. Animal Welfare Act- it regulates the care and use of animals in research, testing, teaching, and exhibition. However, the AWA provides only minimal protection for certain species while excluding others such as rats, mice, and birds bred for research—who together constitute an estimated 90-95% of animals in laboratories. It excludes cold-blooded animals (fish, reptiles, and amphibians), as well as farmed animals raised for food Animal Slaughter We are animals. Definition is, a living organism that feeds on organic matter, typically having specialized sense organs and nervous system and able to respond rapidly to stimuli. Since we are animals we should not pretend to have such privileges over non-human animals Nowadays, we hear about people leaving their dogs in the car, by accident, causing the dogs to overheat and die. What happens to the person who accidentally killed their dog? They face serious charges and sometimes are sentenced to temporary imprisonment because of Canada’s animal cruelty laws. There are offences for killing animals (Criminal Code 445), torturing animals (445.1) as well as neglecting animals. Yet, when corporations such as Tyson Food Co. commit all of those offences and are even caught with video evidence. We believe both humans and animals feel pain and emotion therefor if we dont like being hurt physically or emotionally who are we to cause pain to other animals just because we can. But of course their are people who enjoy their meat and for those who do their should

Transcript: Anything additional you'd like to add? Action Plan Template SMART GOALS ARE... SPECIFIC — A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal, you must answer the six "W" questions: Who? Who is involved What? What do I want to accomplish Where? Identify a location When? Establish a time frame Which? Identify requirements and constraints Why? Specific reasons, purpose of benefits of accomplishing the goal MEASURABLE— Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal. To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as: How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished? ATTAINABLE — When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals. You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them. Include marketing and promotion strategies that you want to use or at least consider using. The point of creating an action plan with SPECIFIC goals is to set you up for success for the school year. You have the opportunity to have ownership over your goals. We will have a collective team goal of new user acquisition, so your goals and strategies for your campus should reflect how you will ultimately help the team achieve the team goal. (Ex. of the community goal: 250,000 new users first semester) Do Your Goals Pass the "SMART" test? Examples Use the questions below to expand on each of your goals Need some more insight on SMART Goals? Here's some supplemental reading: Examples: So what are S.M.A.R.T. goals? More goals? Here's some additional boxes AS AMBASSADORS, YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT CREATING A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND MISSION GOOD GOAL: Effective leaders are recognized by their commitment to the organization or role. Everything leaders do revolves around their passion for the organization’s deeper purpose. Those who create a sense of mission in an organization feel the purpose is meaningful and “beyond oneself.” The organization’s mission resonates through the leader’s words, actions, expectations and decisions. MY SMART GOALS: What do you want to accomplish? Who will be involved? Who are the stakeholders? Where will this goal take place? When will the goal be accomplished? How will you measure progress and success? What are some requirements needed to achieve this goal? What are some potential obstacles that could stand in the way? Why is this goal important to increasing Prezi usage on campus? What benefits will Prezi receive by accomplishing this goal? Product How would you describe the Prezi product? How does Prezi relate to the market (i.e. your campus)? What does your market need, what do they currently use, what do they need above and beyond what they currently use? Competition Can you describe your competition? What makes Prezi stand apart from the competition? What is the competition doing about branding on campus? Zoom in and create an action plan for each goal *Include at least three Remember, you can be creative! This is just a template, so feel free to move things around and make it your own. Helping people share their ideas so they can change the world. BAD GOAL: “We’re going to advertise on social media, spread flyers, and make phone calls to help publicize the rugby team’s exhibition game.” “We’re going to advertise on social media for one week, post 50 flyers in all the classroom buildings, and each make 10 phone calls to help publicize the rugby team’s exhibition game.” Strategies to consider: Networking - go where your market is Direct marketing - flyers, speaking in classes Advertising - campus TV's, chalking on campus Training programs - to increase awareness Write articles, give advice, become known as an expert Publicity/press releases/news articles REALISTIC — To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic. You are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be, but be sure that every goal represents substantial progress. A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low
