Transcript: Characters Skulduggery The Story The Book A presentation by Callum Loughlin Skulduggery Pleasant is a series of books by Derek Landy. It is set in Dublin, where a Skeleton named Skulduggery is a detective with a partner named Stephanie. It is revealed that Stephanie's uncle discovered an ancient weapon called the Spectre which was used by the first sorcerers, to defeat their enemies named the Faceless Ones. Her uncle hid the Spectre in a maze built under the house which was inherited by Stephanie. Skulduggery and Stephanie discover this and find the weapon. The main antagonist, Serpine, wants to control this weapon. Skulduggery works for an organisation named "the sanctuary". In the end of the book, a person who works for the sanctuary named Mr Bliss, betrays them and gives the weapon to Serpine. A fight breaks out between Skulduggery and Serpine. Finally, Skulduggery destroys Serpine with the Spectre and all is well. In the epilogue, Skulduggery asks Stephanie if she wants to officially become his partner. Stephanie agrees and finally learns how to use magic. Derek Landy (the author of Skulduggery Pleasant) is actually a screenwriter. Skulduggery Pleasant was his first book. Derek was born in 1974 in Dublin, Ireland. Derek Landy Nefarian Serpine Skulduggery Pleasant Skullduggery used to be a man once, years ago. But Serpine killed his wife, child and finally, killed skulduggery. He is now an undead sorcerer and detective. He enjoys mentoring an being a friend to Stephanie. I really enjoyed the book! Although it might sound a bit clichéd and childish, it is actually a really good book! It has a good story with memorable characters and is action packed! I definately suggest you give this story a read! Review Stephanie The story begins with Stephanie, a niece to a popular author. When the author dies, he leaves Stephanie his house and all the royalties to the books he wrote. One night, when Stephanie is staying in the house, she is attacked by a man when Skulduggery comes to save her. He is wearing a disguise but it falls off to reveal he is a skeleton! After that, Stephanie discovers her uncle was murdered so she helps skullduggery solve the crime! The genre of this book is fantasy and mystery. The theme of the book is dark as everything is mostly sad (i.e Stephanie's uncle dying , Skulduggery's sad past etc.) Genre and Theme Serpine has been an enemy of skulduggery for years. He killed Skulduggery, his child and his wife. He is a necromancer and is very powerful. His goal is to raise an evil race of creatures called "the faceless ones!" He uses his right hand for magic. Stephanie is a 12-year old girl and is Skulduggery's apprentice. She found out about skulduggery after her uncle passed his house down to her. She discovers in the end of the book that she can use magic because she is a descendent of "Last of the Ancients", the people who discovered magic.
