Background Music

Transcript: How can background music effect my classroom? Background Music Why? Why music? Music has been integrated in education since the beginning of time. How we learn our ABC'S. numbers, vowels, pretty much every foundational skill taught to children at a young age was and still is accompanied by a song. I wanted to create a welcoming environment that is conducive for learning. While creating this environment I wanted my students to be in a structured classroom. I found that when I transitioned out of private school into a public elementary my overall performance was low. I completely lost focus . I saw this same uninterested, fog attributes in my students. This haziness showed in their behavior, social skills and academics. I wanted to find a classroom management technique that would center them, not control them. My students LOVE music, each of them. Adding music to the classroom felt like the most approachable and reachable strategy to implement. Why cont.. Subtopic 1 Studies done on background music has shown positive results. These studies have claim that incorporating background music promote pro-social behavior in the classroom, like sharing or volunteering Hallman (2002). Along with positive social skills, students were more productive while music was played and less behavioral issues occurred Savan (1996) . Review Text Review Continues In my research I did not find a consistent model on how to include background music. Different teachers and classes tested different types of music. This awareness caused me to be more confident in what I wanted to do in my own room. Pictures References Hallam, S., Prince, J. (2002). The effects of background music on primary school pupils’ task performance. Educational Studies, Vol. 28, No. 2, 2002 Savan, A. (1996) A study of the effect of music on the behavior of children with special educational needs. Paper presented at the conference of the Society for Research in Psychology of Music and Music Education, Reasoning For my classroom I am using classical music, piano music as well as guitar music. I decided to involve music that did not have words. I wanted my students to hear their own thoughts and to remain focus on whatever the goal set for them is. Whether that goal is a "small" goal like walking back to your seat or a "big" goal like unpacking and completing morning work in a orderly fashion. I also wanted to expose my children to different types of music. Exposure is the first step to new knowledge. Type of Music/Reasoning Action Plan Time to put it in action! The most appropriate times for me to include music was my transition time. 1. Morning-Classical music- welcoming environment 2. Reading/Math Center Rotation- Guitar music- structured motion 3. Packing up/ELT- piano music- relaxation and motivation Expectation Expectations As the last day of school approaches students become more anxious. I wanted to incorporate something in my class that added substance to our normal procedures. My expectations for including music is that students become more excited about being in the class. From the moment students walk in the room I want them to feel welcome and know that they are in structured community. Topic 2 Click to edit text

Transcript: sources: Background music Water droplets at different heights send different colors to our eyes. A rainbow is typically a half circle of spectral color caused by the refraction of light in water droplets in the sky Rainbows Double rainbows occur when the light is reflected twice in the prism -The light that has all the colors hits the prism -The prism reflects the light -The colors with different wave lengths come out in a different angle -The light refracts when it hits the prism -Different wavelengths have different refractive indexes -Different refractive indexes bend differently -Water droplets act as prisms -Light is refracted upon entering the droplet -Light is reflected when it hits the end of the droplet -Light is refracted the 2nd time when it leaves the droplet -Electromagnetic radiation -Is made up of many colors -Different colors have different wave lengths -Can have lots of sources Light How do rainbows occur https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=rainbow&view=detailv2&&id=848E59EB415333ACDBAB7AFD26A7D6E7734550D7&selectedIndex=1&ccid=guf78URk&simid=608015787546772198&thid=OIP.M82e7fbf14464752e20a6282e8345f91cH0 http://ffden-2.phys.uaf.edu/211.web.stuff/Croy_Filla/Page_2.html http://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/climate-weather/atmospheric/question41.htm http://blog.1000bulbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/VisibleLightSpectrumPlus.jpg http://www.hazemsakeek.com/QandA/Rainbow/rainbow.jpg http://media.npr.org/assets/img/2012/03/01/rainbow-3765963ebf6a8633eee2a3039a506337afd6ac88-s6-c30.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GIAChPHGz6E/T6hyGBfhmwI/AAAAAAAAgW8/lgcnOdbGrJw/s1600/doublerainbow.jpg http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/refrn/Lesson-4/Rainbow-Formation
