The most important way would have to be the fact that he won 3 Heavyweight Champion titles. During his times no-one ever had won 3 titles. What was ironic about this was he won two titles in his prime was banned from boxing for 3 years, then won another title. It was toward them, first because Muhammad Ali was african amercian and was globaly known. Also it was toward them because he was shown as a message of black pride, when he refused to be inducted into the U.S.A military and won his case. Ali was a heroic figure because he inspired many other african americans to go out and do something with their lives. The Day after the fight with Sonny Liston, Muhammad ali publicly announced his conversion to Islam, and changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. When word got out that he did this the public were not happy. They thought that the nation of Islam was racist, and were dissapointed with Muhammad Ali.
