Microsoft Powerpoint vs. Libre Office Impress

Transcript: Document Sharing Overall, I feel that users would be quite satisfied with both PowerPoint and Impress, as it was shown that the applications were either quite efficient yet not so effective, like Impress, or quite effective, yet not so efficient, like PowerPoint. Despite these applications rating high in one area yet low in another still highlights how these applications can be used quite differently, for different reasons and ultimately is the user's descision to either have a very efficient applications or very effective. So I believe that many users can be satisfied with either applications, yet it truly depends upon what users rate; either effectiveness or efficiency. Ultimately, both applications are very usable as they offer many of the same functions yet it is still evident that specifc functions or abilities, such as their efficiency or reliability (for example) can differ and this is where users must decide what application will suit their needs the best. Layout design of Microsoft PowerPoint Overall Satisfaction Available Support Overall I feel that the document sharing from PowerPoint is quite easy and smooth compared to that of Impress. During my time using both applications, it was evident that documents from PowerPoint were easily shared and accessible to other users. Also, I realised that I was able to open and edit a document from Impress onto PowerPoint. PowerPoint also allowed users to save, open and edit their presentation from different devices, such as creating a presentation on a Mac, then working on it on an iPad. Overall, I was shown that PowerPoint was extremely effective at document sharing, with other users and platforms. However, LibreOffice Impress was not so effective at document sharing. I quickly realised that I was unable to smoothly transfer documents from Impress to other users and that I was unable to open a presentation from PowerPoint onto Impress. Also, as shown previously, PowerPont was able to save presentation on different lcoations other than the operating system, however, this was not possible on Impress, which significantly impact upon its ability to share documents. Despite Impress being an open-source application, it simply was ineffective at sharing documents between other users and through other applications, although still offered users with some means of document sharing. Microsoft PowerPoint (Document Sharing) - 5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Document Sharing) - 3/5 By: Domenico Perrotta Interface Accessibility Checker Quality Functionality Below are the system requirements for Microsoft PowerPoint 2016: Computer and processor - 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x86-bit or x64-bit processor Memory - 2GB RAM Hard Disk - 3.0 GB available disk space Display - 1280 x 800 screen resolution Graphics - Graphics hardware acceleration requires a DirectX 10 graphics card. Below are the system requirements for LibreOffice Impress: Operating System - Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or higher Intel processor Memory - 512 MB RAM Hard Disk - 800 MB available disk space Display - 1024x768 screen resolution Usability Microsoft PowerPoint (Aesthetics) - 5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Aesthetics) - 2.5/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Available Support) - 5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Available Support) - 5/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Document Sharing) - 5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Document Sharing) - 3/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Overall) - 5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Overall) - 3.5/5 Ultimately, during my time using both applications I realised that despite both being quite similar, they are also quite different and Microsoft PowerPoint (Operation) - 5/5 LibreOffice (Operation) - 4/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Performance) - 4/5 LibreOffice (Performance) - 4/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Reliability) - 3.5/5 LibreOffice (Reliability) - 4/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Quality) - 5/5 LibreOffice (Quality) - 3.5/5 Microsoft PowerPoint (Functionality) - 4.375/5 LibreOffice (Functionality) - 3.875/5 Layout design of LibreOffice Impress PowerPoint is shown to be more accessible to users despite their capabilities and disabilities when compared to Impress, mainly due to PowerPoint's effective layout/design and the accessibility checker. Microsoft PowerPoint (Accessibility) - 4.5/5 LibreOffice Impress (Accessibility) - 3/5 During my time using PowerPoint and Impress, I realised that Impress is extremely efficient, as I never seemed to have any problems with battery life and Impress never used a lot of RAM. This showed me that Impress was quite efficient in the fact it used both minimal battery life and RAM when operating. On the other hand, PowerPoint seemed much less efficient when compared to Impress. Firstly, I quickly realised that PowerPoint would drain much more of my battery life compared to what Impress would. However, when I would operate PowerPoint, the RAM consumption would be quite similar to that of Impress. Overall, it was clear that both PowerPoint and Impress are efficient applications, yet Impress is definitely more efficient

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Commonly known as OpenOffice, is an open-source software application suite available for a number of different computer operating systems. It is distributed as free software and written using its own GUI toolkit. It supports the ISO/IEC standard OpenDocument Format (ODF) for data interchange as its default file format, as well as Microsoft Office formats among others. OpenOffice.org originated as StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision and acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. The source code of the suite was released in July 2000 with the aim of reducing the dominant market share of Microsoft Office by providing a free and open alternative; later versions of StarOffice are based upon OpenOffice.org with additional proprietary components. LibreOffice "Icons" "SpreedSheet" Writer has all the features you need from a modern, full-featured word processing and desktop publishing tool. It's simple enough for a quick memo, but powerful enough to create complete books with contents, diagrams, indexes, and more. You're free to concentrate on your message, while Writer will make it look great. Standard Bar= The Standard bar is available in every LibreOffice application. OpenOffice.org comprises a collection of applications that work together closely to provide the features from a modern office suite. Many of the components are designed to mirror those available in Microsoft Office. The components available are Writer (word processor application), Calc (spreadsheet application), Impress (presentation application), Base (Database application), Draw (Drawing application), and Math (For creating and editing mathematical formulas). "Libre Office" Impress is a truly outstanding tool for creating effective multimedia presentations. Presentation edition and creation is flexible, thanks to different editing and view modes: Normal (for general editing), Outline (for organizing and outlining your text content), Notes (for viewing and editing the notes attached to a slide), Handout (for producing paper-based material), and Slide Sorter (for a thumbnail sheet view that lets you quickly locate and order your slides). The project and software are commonly known as OpenOffice, but this term is a trademark held by a company in the Netherlands co-founded by Wouter Hanegraaff and is also in use by Orange UK, requiring the project to adopt OpenOffice.org as its formal name. Drawing Object Properties Bar The Drawing Object Properties Bar for objects that you select in the sheet contains formatting and alignment commands. Drawing Bar= The Drawing bar contains frequently used editing tools.
