Transcript: Grace is recieved by repenting, being baptized, believing in Jesus Christ, and receiving a gift from the Holy Ghost (what they call the Holy Spirit). This can be attained by diligent seeking. In the Mormon belief, both men and women are responsible for raising a child. Only men can serve in priesthood but say that the special women's organization is important as well. Wives are also serve a role in helping their husbands in their priesthood offices. Other Practiced Ordinances These are witnesses of Jesus Christ. They help teach Church members and represent the Church worldwide. These people, as well as the First Presidency, oversee the rest of the General Authorities. Mormon officers have stopped practicing polygamy in 1890 and say that modern polygamists who called themselves Mormons are not recognized by the Church. They support the model of marriage between a man and a woman, because they believe it is the best for children. Baptism is done by immersion to adults; children cannot commit sin therefor have no need to be reborn spiritually. Once they are eight they have a sense of morality (right or wrong), thus can be baptized. The dead can also be baptized, as they can choose to reject it in spirithood. Someone has to have "priesthood authority" to perform a baptism. Saving ordinances are essential to the religion and salvation; these cause the individual to enter a solemn covenant with the Lord and include baptism, confirmation, the temple endowment, the marriage sealing, and ordination to the Melchizedek Priesthood for men. Authorities Ordinances "Ordinances in the Church include administration to the sick , blessing the sacrament, blessing of children , (and) conferring the Holy Ghost." Connection to Salvation lds.org; mormon.org Mormons hold liturgical sacrament meetings on Sundays, which families generally attend. They have hymn books and sing hymns, church members offer prayers, a communion (bread and wine in this case), and 'two or three assigned speakers'. Other groups meet before or after the sacrament meeting, including Sunday School. *Individual prayer and keeping ordinances are other ways to worship An individual is saved spiritually and physically through God's grace. Physically by JC's salvation, spiritually "through faith in Jesus Christ, obedience to the laws and ordences of the gospel in service to Christ." Bible Interpretation Modern Issues [General Authorities are the same level of authority under the 1st Presidency and the Qof12] While participating in the saving ordinances is the main step to salvation, it is not enough. To achieve salvation, one has to continue to be obedient to God's word, which the ordinances help guide. Salvation Destiny Stevens Along with his two counselors, the Presiding Bishopric oversees the non-spiritual aspect of the Church. They oversee the Church's affairs worldwide, and serve as role models for members of the Church by volunteering and serving. Quorum of 12 Apostles Individual Members While Mormons don't condone homosexuality and don't officially approve, they officially recognize gay people as human. They do consider homosexuality as a sin, and as such they would not allow non-heterosexual people as members because it goes against their beliefs. Active Mormon adults each serve roles within their church, such as secretary or librarian. Church Structure Stake Presidency Organized into quorums at the ward level, men serve here starting at 12 and advance a level in priesthood every two years. They help guide younger people as well as other Church duties. Oversee general affairs; there are currently eight active quorums of the seventy. They serve in the Presidency of the Seventy as well as in local area Quorums of the Seventy. Prophets are sent by the holy Ghost who lead the church.
