Transcript: Our prison will have a medium level of security because they are the standard facilities used to house most criminals. by Rosalinda Corning and Morgan Whitcomb Introduction to the type of facility we are planning Gender of prisoners Administration Guards Instructors Work experience supervisors Faith workers According to "The Economics of the American Prison System," an article by Thierry Godard of SmartAsset, prison maintenance cost can range from $14k-$40k per prisoner. We will budget for $25k per prisoner, an upper midrange cost due to the specialized services we will offer. At full capacity, this will cost $15.75 million annually. To qualify for residency in our prison, women must also meet the following qualifications: Mental health programs High School Diploma completion program for inmates under 25, or GED program for all ages Classes for college credit with private funding by inmate family or a scholarship program Personal enrichment classes Application process for prisoners In 3rd trimester of pregnancy or the parent of at least one child under 18 Sentence must be no greater than 8 years Have committed a non-violent crime Prisoners must maintain good behavior or risk being sent back to original location Prison staffing needed Meeting qualifications Completing application Receiving recommendations from current supervisors Maintaining good behavior once accepted and transferred Complying with programs and completing goals Prison Size Prison Location Prison Cost End Educational programs offered The budget to build our prison will be $120 million. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the cost to build a prison typically ranges from $98 million to $162 million.
