Transcript: Introduction The Steps I did not have an exact dollar amount of how much I wanted to raise, but I did not expect to raise as much as we did. We were able to raise $2,792! Besides raising money, I also had a goal to learn more about Guatemala and the mission field there. By doing research and talking with my Youth Pastor, I was able to learn a lot about Guatemala. 4. We spent MANY hours pricing all of the items 5. With the help of our family and friends we set up everything at the church in one day. 6. We were finally able to hold our sale! 7. We cleaned up everything and brought the extra items to Goodwill tOnehing that I learned from this project was that organizing and holding a rummage sale is not easy! There were many steps that we had to take to have the sale. 1. We had to ask for permission to hold our sale at United Presbyterian 2. We asked church members, family, and co-workers to donate items for us to sell 3. We advertised for the sale by hanging up flyers in local businesses. We also had an advertisement in the Telegram and on Craigslist. My Goals Rummage Sale for Guatemala Missions Trip Thank you for coming here to listen to my project. My name is Brooke Larsen. For my senior project, I chose to do a service learning project. My friend and I held a rummage sale to raise money for students from our church to go on a missions trip to Guatemala.

Transcript: our mission trip where are we going and why where are we going Costa Rica, Chorotega region we want to go to Costa Rica because it is a place with very high poverty and a very low Christian rate of 1.5% of people that live there. costa rica where is it on a map What We Know what we know about Costa Rica The Poverty rate is 20% and 54.5% of the population is Catholic. Very little of the population is Christian. we also know that there is a high drug use there 05 04 03 02 01 Ways to reach the people Ways to reach the people Our Sermons and music will be open to everyone and if random people want to play or teach, they are welcome to do so. We want it to be a free environment and where everybody feels welcome. If people don't feel reached, we can encourage them to just watch and see what they think about it. How? How do we reach the people who have not been reached? How do we teach the ones who don't know about Christ? If anybody has questions about the sermon or the music, we would be glad to explain them everything. We will also ask them a few questions if they understand it or not. We can also arrange times to individually talk to people on how to understand more about the bible How? Why is it important to share the news of the Gospel? Why? what are we going to do there what are we going to do We will be using Faith Ministries Costa Rica organization to take our mission trip. who are we going through what are we doing we will be doing a big sermon in the the middle of the town with live music two times a week for three months and on the off time we will be doing meets where the local people will ask questions

Missions Trip to Guatemala

Transcript: Built an entire church Passed out bags with bibles, soap, ect.. Went to "The Dump" and fed everyone noodles bread and water, they lined up for hours and were extremely grateful. The church project took the whole week, and was extremely physcially demanding We did a VBS and taught the Mothers more about God and shared testimonies. Background of Guatemala 75 percent of the population is estimated to live below the poverty line I got the chance to go to Guatemala, and it was extremely humbling the places we went. WE visited a literal dump, hundreds of people lived inside the dump, looking for anything to sell and tried to make a living off of it. Missions Trip to Guatemala What we Did The village we went into was called Puerto de Goulpe The organization we worked with is called Hope Of Life, they have a huge compount which included an orphanage, special needs home, hospital and elderly home. We stayed there during the night and during the day we did all sorts of things to bring the word of God to the villages and help their physical needs. What to pray for My Experience Poverty Something I learned is that we are so lucky to live in the U.S and for all that we have. I am extremely excited to go back this year. Needs in Guatemala? -there are 370,000 orphans -Churches need built -Prayers for the lives of the people Article 36 of Guatemala's Constitution says that everyone has the right to any religion. Though Guatemala is 96% professing Christian, there is no official religion. Guatemala is not as much Christian as it is confused People say they are christians, and recognize Jesus as the Christianity symbol, but that's about it. This is one of Guatemala's Major needs. 1. Pray that all the incorrect forms of the Gospel would disappear and that the true message of Christ would be told to the people. 2. More church planters and pastors in Guatemala that can preach a clear message.
