Transcript: to make recommendations to NASPA for additional post-event sanctions. 1.1It is the responsibility of both players to determine before commencing play that there are 100 correct tiles. There can be no appeal if an incorrect number or incorrect distribution is discovered later. Learn to Use the Q 1.5 When the first player has taken a tile out of the bag, the time clock may be started. Scrabble Strategy the imposition of other appropriate penalties restricting, suspending or prospectively banning such players from participation in future NASPA-sanctioned events; Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by placing tiles, each bearing a single letter, onto a gameboard which is divided into a 15×15 grid of squares. The tiles must form words which, in crossword fashion, flow left to right in rows or downwards in columns. The words must be defined in a standard dictionary. Scrabble provides fun for the entire family and has been doing so for almost a century. Originally invented by Alfred Butts during the early 20th century, the game requires players to spell words based on previous words that have been spelled on the board. Playing Scrabble provides many advantages—many of which players might not even be aware of. to cause any player engaged in Offensive Behavior to be expelled from the tournament at which such behavior occurs, which may include disqualification from participation in additional tournaments scheduled to occur in succession at the same tournament site (as, for example, when a tournament involves “early bird” and/or “late bird” events) A director at any NASPA-sanctioned SCRABBLE tournaments has the following authority with regards to conduct which the director believes constitutes Offensive Behavior: 1.2 The pre-tournament information should specify how the first player in each game will be decided. This may be by drawing tiles, use of a computer program, use of a "balanced start" record card, or another method as determined by the tournament organiser. Behavior When Playing Scrabble. SCRABBLE The director may impose one or more of these sanctions, as the director deems appropriate. Imposition of a penalty may or may not be preceded by a warning, at the sole discretion of the director. This is as simple as it comes, but maintaining a static rack of tiles is one of the most common mistakes new players make in Scrabble. When you get your seven tiles, don't keep them in one order on your Scrabble rack. Shuffle them up and look at them in several different combinations. You'll find that seeing the letters in a different order will sometimes reveal a word or potential word that you otherwise wouldn't have noticed in the short time spans of a Scrabble turn. Once you've memorized the two letter words in Scrabble, you can move on to the three letter words. Many of these are simple, because the Scrabble words are simply plural forms of the two letter words you've just learned. Three letter words in SCRABBLE aren't quite as important as the two-letters, because they won't fit into as many places and help you out of as many tight jams. That being said, learning the three letter words is quite important if you are going to become a competitive player. Three Letter Words RULES OF TOURNAMENT PLAY : The following rules are those which apply for the National Championships, as resolved by the Council of the Australian Scrabble Players Associations. 1.3 Balanced starts: either a computer program or a record card of starts is used to determine who shall start each game, with the objective being for players to have roughly the same number of starts. This system is referred to as "balanced starts". When a record card is used, the player who has had fewer starts plays first. If both players have had an equal number of starts, tiles are drawn (see 1.4) to see who plays first. Perhaps the single best way to increase your Scrabble effectiveness is to learn the 2-letter Scrabble words. There is a list of two letter words, usually between 120 and 130 in all, that are included in most official Scrabble dictionaries. When you learn these words, you will find your scoring and your defense will improve. Shuffle Your Tiles Often to invoke a forfeiture of one or more games on the part of a tournament participant whose behavior is deemed by the director or constitutes Offensive Behavior; Q's are especially tricky to play in Scrabble, because the Q almost always needs to be played with a U. Since there are only 4 U's in a Classic Scrabble set, in a multi-player game there is a chance you never see a U on your rack. If you get the Q in a late game scenario, you might find that all the U's have been played already. If you count four on the board, you're likely to have to trade in your letters or take the penalty at the end of the game. Two Letter Words 1.4 Drawing tiles: for each game, each player draws a tile from the bag placing it face up in full view. The player with the letter closest to the start of the
