Veterans/Military

Transcript: http://www.utahpeace.org IVAW and MFSO (Nationwide) Urgency and Approach The Green Party of Utah, Home of the Desert Greens (Taylorsville, UT) http://gp.org/committees/anmc/tulsa/index.html A lot of military peoples have traumatizing events happen during their service. They also have a lot of stress put on them and their families. IVAW and MFSO both have conventions to show their views. KaraJean Kirkland Veterans/Military People for Peace and Justice of Utah They are fighting for the rights of both American and Middle East people, condemn the terrorists and any kind of violence, so I believe they are the opposite of what I was looking for. These are some of the groups that are more what I was looking for. They both talk about bring troops home, but they also talk about support for returning veterans, active duty service people, and their families. Thank you, The End They didn't say anything specific about Veterans or the military, just that they want equal opportunity for everyone. They look for environmental security and equal opportunity for everyone. They also support democracy. I think it is important to understand the affects of war on the people who actively participate in it. I grew up with a lot of veterans in my family and it has played a major part in their lives. I believe that the issues need to be recognized and sometimes having a large turnout at a convention is a great way to make people pay attention, because the media pays attention.

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Military Veterans

Transcript: Military Veterans By: Anabelle Cook and Jessica Collins Exhibit Layout Layout of exhibit The exhibit layout will consist of a hallway leading into a big room. There will be a tour guide walking visitors into the main part of the exhibit. As people are walking through the hallway, there will be small signs with a little bit of history on the exhibit on each one. The tour guide will read these signs and explain the history as the visitors walk. These signs will be above the visitors heads as they are walking forward so they are able to read them as well, if they want. These signs will talk about what happened, when it happened, who was involved and what was the outcome. There will also be images of important people and structures on the walls of this hallway. Once visitors enter the main room, they will see the main part of the exhibit. The Enola Gay will be on display in this big room. The visitors will have an opportunity to explore and see the inside of the plan as well as see the outside. They will be able to walk through to feel the whole experience! Primary Sources Primary Source Quotes This website has a number of quotes from people who survived the dropping of the Atomic Bomb. This is a quote from Michiko Hattori "waving their hands in front of them like seaweed" After the bomb, Michiko lost consciousness after being dropped 3.5 km away from her. She went days with no food or water, and remembers walking around seeing the people who didn't survive and then also caring for the injured. Many of the Japanese feared that they would be exposed to radiation which may infect them. A quote from Theodore Van Kirk, a navigator on the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. He says, ¨You fight a war to win. There were over 100 numbered military targets within the city of Hiroshima. It wasn't a matter of going up there and dropping it on the city and killing people. It was destroying military targets in the city of Hiroshima — the most important of which was the army headquarters charged with the defense of Japan in event of invasion. That had to be destroyed.¨ In this quote, Van Kirk is attempting to give his justification for dropping the bomb on the Japanese. He recognizes that the killing of the innocent wasn't ideal but in war, things like this happen. Theodore Van Kirk during his time serving for the United States Air Force Michiko Hattori years after the dropping of the Atomic Bomb Oral History Oral History https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24qVOYEzNnQ Theodore Van Kirk was a navigator for the 509th Composite Group of the United States Army Air Forces. This group was in charge of flying the aircraft that was going to be dropping the atomic bomb. He talks about Wendover Field where atomic physics were running around and everyone knew what was about to go down. Theodore also says that nobody talked about this atomic bomb or about anything related to it because they would be abandoned. When they were preparing for the mission, an atomic physicist told Van Kirk that they would maybe be fine if they were 9 miles away from the explosion but they weren't 100% sure if they would survive at all. The men on this aircraft were nervous after this so they did everything they could in order to get more weight off of the plane so it would move quicker. Theodore was convinced they had the best airplanes in war. The atomic bomb was successful because of the work of scientists and working men and women during this time.
