Transcript: Characteristics The climate in the temperate rain forest is precipitation. At least 200 cm, up to 350 centimeters in warmer areas. The precipitation can fall in the form of rain or snow, with snow becoming more likely at higher elevations. The average annual temperature is above 0 C. (32 F) The main stretch of this habitat is along the northwestern coast of North America from northern California though southern Alaska. There are also small areas in southern Chile, New Zealand, Australia and a few other places around the world Animals The elk is the most important animal of all. The elk are called the "landscape gardeners". The Elk. The elk or wapiti (Cervus canadensis) is one of the largest species of deer in the world and one of the largest land mammals Elk range in forest and forest-edge habitat, feeding on grasses, plants, leaves, and bark. Elk are ruminants and therefore have four-chambered stomachs The Arctic Fox lives in some of the most frigid extremes on the planet. Among its adaptations for cold survival are its deep, thick fur. The adaptation is that the artic fox fur needs to be brown just as it is in the summer to survive in the rain forest. TEMPERATE RAIN FOREST
