Poe completely changed the genre of the horror story with his masterful talents which was hardly seen during his time. Continue What he looked like He was born in January 19, 1809 and died October 7, 1849 Alive to Death Discussion Poe was famous for writing “The Tell-Tale Heart,” "The Raven" and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” which were what many people were inspired by. Some aspects of Poe’s life, like his literature, were flooded in mystery, and what is true and what is not has always been questioned. Timeline Poe self-published his first book, Tamerlane and Other Poems, in 1827. His second poetry collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems, was published in 1829. Poe published some of his own stories and poems in the magazine, including two parts of his only novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym.
