Transcript: Profesionalism Covers a lot!! For your lessons there should be one for the first day and it should allow the consistency to flow from then on. In these lessons there should be the focus on student mastery of the information or skill. This to me means that the students are being challenged but also set up to succeed and not tempted to fail. This type of effective teaching can "increase student achievement" and make class more enjoyable. Proceedures Effective teachers can manage their classes by being proactive or problem-solving instead of reactive and lazy. Being proactive is to have the room ready with the activity or target of the day, the papers or materials needed for the day and the students arranged appropriate for the content of the day. DON"T PUT THEM IN ROWS AND LECTURE!! Make the students work on being focused. When the students know what they are doing, how they need to transition, what is expected by the end of the class and what consequences there are then the class is managed by itself. This might be one of the harder things for me to work right now because of being in the high school situation. The classes are getting a little better with it though. Main Points to that I Need to Remember!! "A HA" Lessons So something that i think is important to to remember is that you not only have to dress the part but act it as well. Some examples are that you need to dress in soft colors and wear slacks an d a blouse if you can. For me I choose to wear nice pair of sweat pants and polos or I have days that I dress nice for my coaching events but I am still in attire that works with PE. Acting the part includes everything form the simple meeting the students at the door and helping them with work or finding classes to setting the positive expectations of them. This makes for a positive learning environment because you get away from the dictator and to the bar setter or the teacher that pushes for success not expects failure. One thing that can be forgotten in the field of teaching and with the big buzz o standardize testing is that "education is not a product; it is a never-ending process." That is one thing that I never really thought about until reading it because we see so much of how much a test in the middle of a unit could be weighted for and how some times you can complain about the final being a wast of time when really that is showing the process you went through to get to the point you are at. This is a life lesson and a constant point to remember because it is easy to forget. I feel like there is a ton of time spent on role taking, discipline, and any procedural tasks during class. On the first days you will have to take some time to either teach or reteach these to the students but after that it should be smooth sailing. Doing things to take role such as how I take roll of them getting their work out sheets from a folder to begin the class and the left over ones are the absent ones makes life faster and less waiting and figuring out. The one thing that will help out the most with everything that is discipline or the everyday procedures is to make posters and put them up so that there is little teacher direction on the repetitive side. One of the teacher friends i have had the best idea of having the students come up with the goals for the class instead of rules. Rules seem like punishment instead of reminders of what our goals are. Success in two words? Classroom Managment!!
