CHRISTIAN VALUES

Transcript: Hebrews 11:1 FAITH means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. Corinthians 5:7- For we live by faith, not by sight. Galatians 2:20-I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I was fortunate enough to have my efforts recognised by the Kids Plus Foundation. They demonstrated grace by giving me a plaque in recognition of my fundraising efforts. This made me feel very proud. I have had to have truth when i have been in trouble i had to admit what i have either at school or at home. LOVE means that you have strong feelings for someone and that you care for someone. LOVE also means that you lookout for someone and stand up for them if they are in need. LOVE is when you feel happy and you feel excited. LOVE is also when you trust someone who helps you to feel happy. LOVE can mean different things to different people. LOVE includes other values like: Justice, Empathy, Generosity,Commitment,Relationship, Care, Compassion and self-worth. something or you might have confidence in something or someone. FAITH can mean different things to different people. To me FAITH also means believe in yourself that you can do anything you wish to do. FAITH means that you want something to happen. FAITH is when you believe in On a day to day basis I need to have faith. At school for example, I have had to have Faith before a maths test - to believe that that I will do well. In my personal life, I show faith by believing in myself that I can push through boundaries to achieve my goals. If you have faith in yourself you can do anything. Truth is being honest and telling the right facts. It can also mean that you have trust in someone and you don't lie and you appreciate things. For example if you get into trouble and the teacher/parent asks you to tell them what happened you tell the truth and you don't lie. Corinthians 13:13- And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Grace Pictures and quotes Bible verses about Truth Love Corinthians 13:4-8: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. CHRISTIAN VALUES By Sophie Potter Prayer Thessalonians 1:3 ‘We thank God that you continue to be strong because of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.’’ I HOPE good things are going to happen to me during my lifetime. HOPE is something we want on a daily basis across different parts of our lives. You can HOPE for something small like a sunny warm day or you can HOPE for something big like winning tattslotto. I have had to have HOPE when I run at the school cross country that I will get a good place. If I have HOPE, I have a growth mindset and cross that finish line with a good placing. Bible verses about Love John 14:5 -This value also begins with God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the Life,” John 8:31- If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Daniel 10:21- But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince. Grace Bible verses about Hope How does the values relate to my life? Bible verses about Grace Truth Hope GRACE is when you thank someone in some way for doing something special. GRACE can also mean that you have a soft elegant movement. When you have GRACE you are giving something to someone who deserves it. When have i had to use the value truth? John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” 1 Peter 1:3-6 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. When do i have to have faith? Romans 5: We try to reflect both God's grace to us, His grace in which we stand. Corinthians 12:8-9 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Transcript: The opposite of wisdom is 'foolishness'. Jesus was criticised for being a 'friend of sinners' and eating with those whom society rejected. He also chose his disciples from groups that other religious leaders of the day would not have even spoken to. Jesus knew that friends should be chosen for who they are, not what they are. What is Christian Wisdom? The first Christians expressed koinonia in a genuine common life with shared meals, shared possessions and practical support for the poor. The Christian church today still continues to serve not only those within the Christian community but any who are in need. Discuss the questions (7 mins). The Parable of the Rich Fool (Matthew 6:19, Luke 12:15) 'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth. A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.' Christian Values Wisdom Friendship Love Forgiveness Trust Koinonia Christian Values Everyone's different gifts are at the service of the community. What about our school? Are we as staff a community, working towards a common goal? Are the pupils? What is the quality of this relationship? Are we interdependent? The Good Samaritan Jesus exemplified forgiveness in his ministry. Friendship is all about: Trust Feeling comfortable in each other's company Being able to share joys and sorrows The Prodigal Son Yet, in our society we are not good at practising trust. There often seems a mutual distrust between people (my Bedford example). Trust can give security but it does make you vulnerable. Agape - an overview In the Lord's Prayer, Christians ask God to 'forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us'. In essence, the prayer is asking for God to treat us in the same way we treat other people. 1) God is merciful and forgives our sins and failings 2) In the same way, we must forgive others His own crucifixion In the Psalms, 'Trust in the Lord' is a central theme. Time and time again, God is acknowledged as the source of all true security and strength. This is in contrast to wealth, princes, chariots, horses and weapons (you can probably think of modern day equivalents of weapons). Consider and discuss the 'Friendship' questions on your sheet. (7 minutes) Discuss the questions on your sheet (7 minutes). Trust is essential to human life and lies at the heart of all relationships. It entails being vulnerable, as by trusting you are putting yourself into others' hands. We trust experts - pilots, dentists, surgeons; that other car drivers will follow the rules of the road; that a chair will support you. It has a strong link to faith. This should be extended even to people we don't get on well with. Jesus does not make a distinction - 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' Marriage is another institution founded on mutual trust. Can be described as a God-given framework in which human trust can be developed (Buber - I-Thou). Evident through the vows. 'To have and to hold, for better for worse, for richer for poorer...' What is Christian Forgiveness? Christ's church is interdependent - all are needed and valued in a common goal. Koinonia also expresses the quality of relationship within the Christian community. Through Jesus, Christians share the relationship that he has with God. Jesus prays in John 17 that all his followers may be 'perfectly one' as he and the Father are one. Crucifixion key - we love because he first loved us. Friendship is an undisputed value in our society, reflected in the fact that staff and pupils alike at Alban ranked it highly in the Christian Values sort last year. Over to you... Discuss the questions on your table as a group (7 minutes). Discuss the questions on your sheet (7 minutes). Bearing a grudge and seeking revenge are never appropriate responses to a perceived wrong. A grudge destroys the grudge-holder with bitterness, and revenge will only escalate hostilities. Jesus told us that we must reconcile, let go of the anger. 'Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you'. Forgiveness is fundamental to the character of God. Christians forgive because they know themselves to be forgiven. Ephesians 4:32 Alban Academy Sharing a meal is an explicit sign of friendship - companion literally means 'one with whom you share bread'. Meals feature heavily in the Bible as times of fellowship and friendship, and Jesus particularly tells stories of the heavenly banquet to which all are invited. At banquets, the apparent barriers between people are broken down in a loving community around God himself, and Jesus had stern words to say to those who refused to recognise that all people were included in this community of friendship, not just the 'worthy'. Trust is central to a civilized society - we need it to live together in harmony. We can begin to rebuild trust in our mistrustful society by being reliable ourselves and not letting people down. When we work with others we should be willing to let go of the controlling position and trust in the abilities and
