Myth: "a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events." Ancient Greek: "The term Ancient, or Archaic, Greece refers to the time three centuries before the classical age, between 800 B.C. and 500 B.C.—a relatively sophisticated period in world history. Archaic Greece saw advances in art, poetry and technology, but most of all it was the age in which the polis, or city-state, was invented. The polis became the defining feature of Greek political life for hundreds of years." What are Greek Myths? Greek Myths are Stories that the Greek people created to explaine the world and thier Gods. Titans Titans The Titans were the original Kings and Rulers of the Heavens. The Gods, which were thier chidren, defeted them in a war and became the new rulers of the Universe. Rhea & Cronus Rhea & Cronus Rhea and Cronus were Titans. Rhea and Cronus were married and had six children who later became the Gods. Thier childeren are: Hades/Pluto Poseidon/Neptune Hestia/Vesta Demeter/Ceres Hera/Juno Zeus/Jupiter Children Children Gods and Goddesses Gods and Goddesses Zeus/Jupiter Zeus/Jupiter Zeus is the ruler of all the Gods, he is also God of the Sky. Worship Zeus was a pretty fearsome at times. He could have easily been one of the most worshiped Gods Worship Hades/Pluto Hades/Pluto Hades was the brother of Zeus. He has a Helmet of Darkness that kind of makes him invisible. Hades and Persephone Demeter is the Goddess of Agriculture and the Harvest. Hades fell in love with her daughter, Persephone, and one day stole her away! Demeter searched and searched but couldn’t find Persephone. Hades had taken her to the Underworld, the home of all dead mortals. She was not allowed to leave if she had eaten any food from the Underworld, it turns out Persephone did! She ate a few pomegranate seeds! Demeter said that she would not make anything grow on Earth unless Persephone came to live with her. Everything would die! The other Gods convinced Hades to let her spend half the year on Earth with Demeter and half with Hades in the Underworld. Hades and Persephone While his brothers got a Helmet of Darkness and a bucket of Lightning Bolts, Poseidon got a trident to create earthquakes. Poseidon/Neptune Poseidon was the father of all the cyclops. God of the Sea, Earthquakes, and Horses Poseidon/Neptune Hera was the wife of Zeus and Queen of the Gods. She was the Goddess of Marriage and the Family. Zeus had many affairs with other women. Hera was jealous of all of them and thier children. The main reason was because she never had other affairs. Hera/Juno Hera/Juno Hestia/Vesta Hestia/Vesta Hestia was the goddess of the Hearth, the Home and Domesticity. She wasn't ever marride because she entered a oath that she wouldn't enter a union with a man. Demeter was the goddess of the Harvest and she helps all the plants live and thrive. Without her work everything on earth would die, because without plants the animals would have nothing to eat and they would die then the humans would die because they would have no meet or greens. Demeter/Ceres Demeter/Ceres Monsters Monsters Echidna was known as the mother of monsters. She was a half human half snake. She was married to the giant Typhon, and with him had many monster children which include Cerberus, Hydra, Nemean Lion, Ladon, and such. Echidna Echidna The Gorgons were three sisters, Euryale, Stheno and Medusa. The were hidious monsters with snakes for hair and fangs. Gorgans Gorgans Medusa Medusa was the mortal Gorgan. The hero Perseus, with help from the goddess Athena, slayed Medusa. Cerberus was the guard-dog of the Underworld. He had three heads and would not let any living soul enter. Cerberus Cerberus Heracles For one of his twelve labours he had to take Cerberus to the living world. After Heracles was finished with Cerberus he reterned him. Cyclopes were one-eyed giants. Cyclopes Cyclopes The Minotaur has the body of a man and the head of a bull. He was locked in a labarynth as a punishment. Minotaur Minotaur A siren was a half bird-half woman monster. These creatures lured sailers to thier deaths with thier sweet song, leading them to the ocean to drown. Siren Siren Creatures Creatures Pegasus was a winged horse that was born of Medusa and the god Posidon. He was Zeus' way of traveling. Pegasus Pegasus A centaur was a half hores-half human creature. Centaur Centaur A dryad is a tree spirit. Dryad Dryad Nymphs were beautiful nature goddesses who were not as high ranked as the Olympians. Nymph Nymph A phoenix is a bird that can live up to 1400 years. When it dies it can be reborn from it's ashes. Phoenix Phoenix A Satyr is a half beast, half human.
