Lasted for one year. Fiftieth Star U.S Flag 1960 49 Stars 21-29 Stars Became official on May 1st, 1795. Two stars were added one for Vermont and one for Kentucky. Francis Scott Key was inspired by this flag flying over fort to write a song which became known as “The Star Spangled Banner” Five Presidents served under this flag: George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. Ten stars were added for North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, ????, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona. President Eisenhower was only president to serve under this flag.
