Transcript: It's all about Progression not Perfection Skills Overview Skills Overview During this semester while taking this course I learned... - How to actively listen and how to think before I respond. I also learned how to critique myself and also receive constructive criticism. - Also while taking this class I learned how to conduct an interview in the proper way. Skills that still need a little help. Skills to continue working on Some skills from this semester that I feel like I could still progress in would be my open-ended questions, goal formation, and scaling questions. Some ways I feel like I can continue to improve these three skills would be to one remember not to be in my head so much and to let the conversation flow naturally. I would also try to figure out better ways of asking/finding out what the client wants without just being so straight forward and blunt. Lastly, I would try to come up with some sort of way to remember to ask the scaling questions in the right timing. NASW Core Values Shown Ethical Demonstration I feel like the two main values I showed whenever I was conducting an interview would be Service and Professionalism. I feel like I displayed service by being that listening ear and being there for the client in the ways that they needed me to be. I feel like I displayed professionalism by keeping my composure and I used S.O.L.E.R whenever I was interviewing a client. Transcript: Chapter 18-The Plate Summary Hagen Koch was banned from his fathers funeral and was infuriated. As a result he quit the Stasi and joined the German Army. Before Koch left he needed something to signify he worked through the Stasi. He took this plate in the picture. The plate represented the cultural work their unit had won. Koch denied that he had taken the plate to all the german soldiers and members of the Stasi who showed up at his door. Then in a interview years later the Stasi noticed the plate in the background. Soldiers showed up demanding the plate back but Koch said not until he has a charge. He then was charged with theft. A little while later the charge was withdrawn and then replaced with perjury. He was never in a actual trial but his wife did lose her job. Point Of The Chapter Hagen Koch was going into the army after resigning from the Stasi and wanted something to signify what he was working for. He takes the plate hanging on the wall from his office. He fought about returning it because it represented his independence and his refusal to go along with the Stasi’s commands Short excerpts of quotations “ All the courage I had was in that plate”. Koch said this at the end of the chapter and it really showed how much he was putting into not letting the Stasi control every aspect of his life. “Koch is a thief, liar, and perjurer”. There was awful rumors going around about Koch. I don't agree with everything Koch has done but then again he did stand up for himself. I wish people would see that Koch showed power and change in the Stasi. He also showed citizens that the Stasi cannot always get their way. How this chapter drives the book forward and my reaction. At the end of the chapter it talks about how Funder went to where the wall used to stand. She states that there is now just a stretch of grass. She walks along the grass, thinking about how Marium told her she had to avoid the dogs and cutting herself on barbed wire. It brings along the next chapter because the next one talks about east german and western culture. My Reaction I really like how Hagen Koch stood his ground after he quit. I am happy he stood up for himself and didn't cave even when they listed the worst punishments. I wish they did not bring in his wife into the mess only he made. Overall it was a very interesting chapter.
